In the third tier of the LEADS program you will become a Leader in Service. Being a Leader in Service is based the idea of Robert Greenleaf (1970) noting that:
Caring for persons, the more able and the less able serving each other, is the rock upon which a good society is built. If a better society is to be built, one that is more just and more loving, one that provides greater creative opportunities for its people, then the most open course is to raise both the capacity to serve and the very performance as servants of existing major institutions by new regenerative forces operating within them.
Greenleaf (1970) also notes that, "the first and most important choice a leader makes is the choice to serve, without which one's capacity to lead is severely limited". Leaders is service is an opportunity for you to demonstrate this aspect of leadership. The program will begin in the summer during one of the Leaders in Service information session. As a Leader in Service you will learn about the Seven Pillars of Servant Leadership, serve as a mentor to the new Emerging Leaders program, create service opportunities and develop an Alternative Spring experience.
