Strategic Planning

This site is devoted to the 2004-2008 CCP Strategic Plan development process. It contains a list of the 2004-2008 Strategic Planning Committee Members; information related to the internal and external scanning process; discussion materials of strategic planning meetings; planning document; and a timeline of the Strategic Plan process.

As you review the information available on this website it may be helpful to understand some of the guiding principles and considerations that will shape the planning process.

  • The planning process will build on suggestions made in the current Middle States Self Study to improve the planning process, for example:

    • Greater clarity with respect to expected and actual outcomes, especially the impacts on students
    • Greater demonstration of the relationship between planning and resource allocation

  • Address a limited number of major critical issues that, based upon internal and external considerations, require additional effort and resources at the time the plan is prepared. The 2003 Middle States Self Study findings will be an important consideration in developing the next plan.

  •
  • The Strategic Plan is achieved in large part through activities identified in annual/multi-year operating plans prepared by each division and department. The link between annual operating plans and the 2004-08 Strategic Plan will be made explicit throughout the plan's duration.

  •
  • Planning objectives must be realistic given projected resources, but also set meaningful directions for the College if resources are greater or less than anticipated.

  •
  • In a time of limited resources an effective planning process will result in resources being reallocated to areas of greatest importance to the achievement of the plan.

  •
  • There are a range of approaches to develop and allocate resources to plan. All of these will be used during the next planning cycle:

    • Strategic plan venture fund in annual budget
    • Reassignment of vacant faculty/staff positions
    • Commitment of existing faculty and staff resources to plan objectives
    • Departmental/divisioinal planning for use of discretionary budget funds
    • Capital fund raising initiatives
    • Grant and development activities

  • An effective plan will evolve over the life of the plan. Risk taking in setting an initially ambitious agenda is desirable. It is not a failure in the planning process if not all objectives originally set are achieved based upon changing institutional circumstances.
