Standard 14 Committee Minutes: 10/22/2002
DATE: | 10/22/2002 |
TIME: | 3:15 to 4:45 PM |
PLACE: | W2-5 Conference Room |
PRESENT: | Sonya Lott-Harrison, Deb Rossi, Warren Berman, Marcia Epstein, Emilie Harting, Madeline Marcotte, George McCasland, Mark McCormick, Joan Monroe, Elaine Taliareni |
- College Assessment Plan
- It was suggested that each member go to the College Faculty and Staff link page and click on Middle States Web page. On left hand side of the site, access the College's Assessment Plan and print it. This will be added to our list of resources.
- Distribution of Materials
- Minutes from last week's meeting were distributed. In addition, Joan, Elaine and Lynne provided the committee members with handouts listing the online reports available through the College website through Institutional Research. A copy of the program audit procedure was also provided to each member. The information contained in the documents was discussed and the general consensus was that a lot of data is available pertaining to institutional effectiveness through the online resources. The committee will need to focus more closely and research for program and course assessment information.
- College's Mission Statement and Standard #14
- A handout listing the College's mission statement provided by George and Warren was discussed as to what parts of it pertained to Standard 14. All but two sections are related to Standard 14. This document will be revised to reflect only those areas pertinent to our committee's focus.
- Working Bibliography
- Madeline volunteered to develop a working bibliography of all references and resources the committee is gathering to facilitate the organization of these records. This will help to streamline discussions and simplify the retrieval of documents during discussions.
- Selection of Programs for Assessment
- Through discussion, it was decided that purposeful sampling for the selection process would be used to identify the career, transfer, and cross-discipline programs from which audit information would be gathered. It would be important to select programs related to workforce demands. This would require looking at documents other than those online for the program and course level assessment.
Assignments for Next Week:
- Look at Lynne, Elaine, and Joan's handouts and see how they fit together. There is duplication in some areas. Consolidate the information under one general heading with the appropriate reports.
- Inquire within your department about the assessment techniques that are currently being used. Bring samples with you to next week's meeting, if appropriate.
- For programs that have completed audits, bring samples to share with members next week.
- Identify the programs, courses, disciplines that you think should be part of the sample selected for assessment measurement for the College at large. (Refer to last page of Warren's handout for identification of options.)
