Agenda Items Discussed:

  1. Committee members reported on their interviews with College faculty and administrators who were actively involved in the general education reforms over the past 10-15 years. These interviews were summarized and presented to the Committee. The purpose of these interviews was to provide the Committee with a diverse background of facts and opinions about the College's efforts toward general education reforms. The information acquired from these interviews will assist the members in developing the Committee's Action Plan.
    The faculty/administrators who were interviewed follow:
    • Elaine Atkins, Curriculum Development - A. Butler
    • Don Bowers, Department of Behavioral Sciences - F. Calabrese
    • Madeline Cohen, Art Department - J. Fisher
    • Edna Freeny, Graduation Office - J. Borlandoe
    • Larry MacKenzie, English Department - M. McGorry
    • Sharon Thompson, Dean, Liberal Studies - R. Gorchov
  2. D. Prejsnar provided background and supporting documents about the American Diversity requirement The supporting documents included:
    • Student Survey for American Diversity Courses with results
    • Context and Goals of the American Diversity Requirement
    • Guidelines for American Diversity Courses (Draft)
  3. To address the Committee's charges, the members agreed that more in-depth background information was necessary about the development of Dimensions, curricular reform, and the Liberal Arts and CST curricula. Therefore, the Committee concluded that Don Bowers and Sam Hirsch should receive an invitation to attend the next scheduled meeting, Tuesday, November 19. Their input will provide the Committee with more information about Dimensions.

The meeting was adjourned at 4:45 PM.
