Agenda Items Discussed:

  1. The charges to the Standard 12 committee were reviewed with an overview of the documents that were sent to the Committee members for background information.
  2. The most recent document relating to Dimensions, Report of Dimensional Review Committee with Appendix, May 2001, which was presented to the Dimensions Steering Committee and to the Academic Affairs Council.
  3. The Dimension Requirements that are identified in the College catalog.
  4. The American Diversity Course Requirements that are identified in the College catalog.
  5. The status of Dimensional and American Diversity Requirements at the College.

As a result of these discussions, committee members will review existing documentation and answer the following questions regarding general education, Dimensional, and American Diversity Requirements before the next meeting:

  • How were they created?
  • Who comprised the original committees?
  • Who developed the requirements?
  • Were students ever involved?
  • How does the College's Technology Plan affect the general education requirements?
  • How many programs include American Diversity requirements?

Prior to the next meeting Committee members will receive for their review:

  • Results of the 1993 Middle States Self-Study
  • Temple University Core Requirements web site

The Committee identified members to interview College faculty or administrators about the following issues/questions that relate to the charges of the committee:

  • The impact of Dimensions and American Diversity on general education at the College.
  • Faculty in CFT office who are responsible for the American Diversity requirements.
  • Why courses that qualify do not have Dimensional designation.
  • Did the Dimensional and the American Diversity Course Requirements affect courses positively or negatively?
  • The status of the Liberal Arts curricula and CST curriculum according to the developers and coordinators status of the programs.
  • How the general education, Dimensional, and American Diversity Requirements are recognized in the Graduation office.
  • Has Academic Advising been helpful in complying with general education, Dimensional, and American Diversity Requirements?
  • Are students concerned about, or pay attention to, the general education, Dimensional, and American Diversity requirements?
  • Is the computer literacy requirement followed as was suggested for the general education requirements?

The meeting was adjourned at 5 PM.
