  1. 1. E. Freeny reported that Graduation Waivers for general education courses were generated for the following reasons:

    • discrepancies between social science and humanities courses
    • change of curriculum
    • students begin in one program and graduate in another
    • courses that are cancelled due to insufficient enrollment
    • when a student changes curriculum and the American Diversity requirement does not meet his/her current curriculum
    • Advanced English courses (ENGL 102 and ENGL 112) are sometimes waived as are ENGL 115 and ENGL 116
    • when student has the credits to graduate but is missing a course due to misadvising.

      1. E. Freeny and T. Jones both agreed that many transferring institutions do not accept credit by examination for transfer.
      2. There is no written College policy regarding courses that are "transferred in."
      3. Departmental policies toward credit by examinations, credit for life experience, and waivers change depending on the department head.

  2. T. Jones presented information on the College's transfer agreement with Temple University and general education at the College. The agreement is in effect even though the Dimension requirement was not implemented. Additional transfer information included the following:

    • core-to-core agreements
    • program-to-program
    • dual admissions.

  3. C. Giddle reported on programs where American Diversity is achieved through infusion. BHHS is an example of a program using infusion to meet American Diversity requirement.

  4. Committee agreed that the following elements regarding general education at the College were nonexistent:

    • governing body responsible for general education issues and that monitors student success and achievement
    • method for assessing success in general education courses other than grades
    • method for implementing Dimensions
    • written policies for waivers, credit by examinations, and credit for life experience.

The meeting was adjourned at 6:20 PM.
