Standard 12 Committee Minutes: 3/31/2003

DATE:3/31/2003
TIME:4:30 PM
LOCATION:W1-1N
PRESIDING:C. Giddle, M. McGorry
PRESENT:A. Butler, J. Fisher, R. Gorchov, T. Jones, M. Niven

Agenda Items Discussed:

  1. 1. Preliminary results of the College student and faculty surveys were discussed. In the 1993 Self-Study over 200 faculty completed the questionnaire. In the 2003 Self-Study 98 faculty responded.

    1. In the current student survey Question #13 addressed the oral communication skill requirement issue, which is relevant to one of the Standard 12 charges.
    2. According the faculty survey, 49% reported that the Dimensions effort had no effect on curriculum. This disaffection of faculty seems to be characteristic of what the Committee has found. Further exploration of this finding seems crucial.
    3. Conclusions: Dimensions and computer competency requirements were not implemented.

  2. 2. T. Jones researched the College's Environmental and Internal Scans and summarized their relationship with Standard 12 charges.

  3. 3. Course delivery systems at the College and how they affect general education should be pursued. Some of the questions remaining include:

    • Do any of the online courses use student evaluations to obtain feedback about the course and student performance? M. McGorry will ask M. Saks.
    • Do students who "transfer in" to the College have difficulty getting their courses accepted at the College? E. Freeny will be invited to a future meeting for her input about this and other topics.

The meeting was adjourned at 6 PM.
