Agenda Items Discussed:

  1. Committee reviewed the feedback received at the Open Forum that took place on March 20.
  2. C. Giddle reported on her meeting with Karen Schermerhorn and Steve Jones.
  3. The Committee discussed the charges and what aspects we had not pursued thoroughly including:
    • Perkins Vocational Education Local Plan for Career Program data. M. McGorry has this data and will bring to next meeting.
    • Current requirements for A.A. degrees-specifically, charge #1c that refers to A.A. degrees replacing General Studies.
    • Review general education as defined by Characteristics of Excellence and our Middle States charges.
    • Review Institutional Research's Environmental Scan and the recently published Report #129 Institutional Effectiveness 2002 A College Report Card.
    • Review initiatives regarding computer literacy and information literacy--determine how many students use the College Library.
    • Review what programs address oral communication skills by including ENGL 114, 115, or 116 courses.
  4. T. Jones planned to interview Mike Hearn, CIS faculty, regarding the computer competency requirement. This will be in addition to the information he obtained from A. DiBlasi, Jr.
  5. J. Fisher will review information literacy at the College and identify how many students use the College Library.
  6. Committee members' notes from focus groups (student and faculty) will be summarized by R. Gorchov. Committee members should send all notes from focus groups to R. Gorchov.
  7. C. Giddle will obtain information regarding ENGL 101 and 102 student outcomes/patterns.

The meeting was adjourned at 6 PM.
