![]() Standard 1 Committee Minutes: 12/13/2002
Present: Steve Jones, Judy Davidson, Mary Ann Quillen, Susan Peterson, Deborah Coley, Eric Whitenight, Mardi Holliday Lynette Brown-Sow, Vice President for Communications and Government Relations, will attend the committee's next meeting (Friday, January 10, 2003 at 12:30). We were mistaken about her availability to meet today. Steve Jones presented the revised Work and Timeline for Mission, Goals, and Objectives to the Committee members. He outlined three tasks:
Discussion then focused on the first task. For focus groups two potential constituencies were identified: Department heads and full-time faculty who had been hired recently. Questions pertaining to the new faculty would include: What was presented at the new hires' orientation? Did they receive copies of the Mission Statement? In addition was the Mission explained during the hiring interview? Also discussed was the degree to which the Mission Statement is referred to during employee evaluations. The committee agreed it would be appropriate to include curriculum coordinators with department heads. To start this phase of information gathering, dates for focus group meetings were chosen: Wed. Jan. 29 at 2:00 p.m., Thurs. Jan. 30 at 10:00 a.m., Wed. Feb. 5 at 10:00 a.m., Thurs. Feb. 6 at 2:00 p.m. Judy will draft an invitation letter to be sent to department heads. The committee then discussed the tentative MGO plan for gathering information from the outside community that had been developed by Mary Ann and Jane. Ideas for how to get in touch with these sources were exchanged. Mary Ann's contacts and members of the College's Advisory Committees were identified as two sources. Judy offered to find out if there is a master list of Advisory Committee members to which we could refer. Another external constituency is the people invited from outside the college to participate in the Strategic Planning process. Our next step is to develop ideas for specific questions and decide upon format. Steve and Judy had communicated with Lynette Brown-Sow, sharing with her the questions we had developed for her to answer. When she meets with us, she will talk about the College Marketing Plan and some of the obstacles to its implementation. Copies of the plan were distributed, and we are to read the plan prior to our next meeting. Next two meetings: Friday, January 10, at 12:30 and Friday, January 24, at 12:30, both in W2-3.
