Institutional Context Committee Minutes: 12/18/2002

Present: Sharon Thompson, Kathy Smith, Steve Jones, Fran DiRosa, Don Bowers, Judy Davidson, Barbara Spadaro, Ji Gao.

The meeting began with an announcement regarding the appointment of John Jones as the Technical Specialist for Middle States. He will be available to provide support for all administrative activities.

The remainder of the meeting focused on the "mid-term" report that will take place during Professional Development Week in January. Each of the committee chairs presented the approach they intended to take in reporting to the College community. Specifically, Don Bowers and Fran DiRosa, Chairs of the Planning Committee expect to present an overview of the group's activities using overhead slides. They will describe the documents they have reviewed and their general impressions of the planning process. They will describe the process as a road map which can guide the institution. Steve Jones and Judy Davidson, co-chairs of the Mission committee plan to involve the audience in their presentation by using the reporting session to get feedback on issues of concern to the committee such as awareness of the mission statement and how it guides our individual decisions. The Institutional Assessment Committee chaired by Barbara Spadaro and Ji Gao prepared a power point presentation to provide an overview of the charges to their committee and the progress to date. They will frame the notion of assessment for the general College community.

The scheduling of forums for each committee in the spring was then discussed and the proposed schedule reviewed. It was agreed that the proposed schedule was workable. The purpose of the forums, as opportunities for feedback from the College community was also discussed.
