![]() Institutional Context Committee Minutes: 11/13/2002
Present: Sharon Thompson, Kathy Smith, Fran DiRosa, Don Bowers, Judy Davidson, Barbara Spadaro.
The meeting began with a series of announcements. There will be a reporting session during the January Professional Development Week and forums for each committee to present their work to the College community in the Spring semester. We anticipate the appointment of a technical support person for Middle States by January. The general working of the committees was also discussed and chairs were asked to provide requests for additional members and draft questions for surveys to students, faculty or any other constituency so that they could be compiled by Institutional Research. The meeting then turned to its primary focus - the substance of each committee's work. Fran DiRosa and Don Bowers, chairs of the Planning Committee discussed their findings regarding the College planning process and the nature of the documents reviewed. The Committee has reviewed many documents to include the External/ Internal Scans, the Strategic Plan, Facilities Master Plan, the Technology Plan and the Clarus report. We discussed the relationship of the plans and what seems to be driving the planning process. This discussion led to a consideration of the overlaps and distinctions of the work of the Planning Committee and the work of the Institutional Assessment Committee. Judy Davidson discussed the work of the Mission Committee which was in its preliminary stages. They have asked the Curriculum Facilitation Team how mission is used to guide course and curriculum development. Their committee is very interested in knowing whether the broad College community is aware of the Mission Statement. We discussed several strategies for ascertaining this information. Barbara Spadaro and Ji Gao then discussed the approaches taken by the Institutional Assessment Committee which led to a general discussion regarding the types of assessment conducted by the College and those involved in assessment. They hope to review how programs are assessed and whether these assessments are data driven. |
