Vice President
Sharon Thompson, Ph.D., is currently serving as the Acting Vice President of Academic Affairs at Community College of Philadelphia. Dr. Thompson joined the College in 1975 as a counselor working with our students with disabilities. She then went on to direct the Center on Disability for over ten years. In 1991, she was appointed Assistant to the Vice President of Academic Affairs for Special Projects, during which time she conducted a comprehensive review of Academic Advising and co-led the College's reaccreditation self-study. In 1992, she became Assistant Dean in the Division of Liberal Studies after a major College reorganization. In 1993, she was chosen to lead the Division of Liberal Studies as the Dean, a position she held at the College until September 2013. From 1999-2000, Dr. Thompson also served as Acting Vice President for Academic Affairs. In August 2006, Dr. Thompson's title was amended to Associate Vice President for Academic Affairs and Dean of Liberal Studies. In this role she was responsible for the Liberal Studies Division and for providing support to the Vice President by facilitating initiatives that cross academic areas as well as other areas of the College, helping to ensure effective operation of academic systems, assisting in resolving labor issues, representing the Vice President at College and external events, and providing support during transitions in leadership of academic units. She has overseen the ESS Division, the FLOAT Division, and served as Executive Producer of CCPTV, the College’s cable channel which offers educational and enrichment programming. Dr. Thompson holds a B.A. in Sociology from Brooklyn College, an M.A. in Counseling from New York University and a Ph.D. in Educational Administration from the University of Pennsylvania. She has been active on local community boards outside the College. She was appointed Acting Vice President of Academic Affairs in September 2013. |
