Saint Joseph’s University Dual Admissions Agreement

Saint Joseph’s University’s Professional & Liberal Studies and Haub Degree Completion welcome applicants to the Dual Admissions Program in order to facilitate the transfer of students from Community College of Philadelphia to Saint Joseph’s University with third-year (junior) status for the purpose of entering a bachelor’s degree program. Professional & Liberal Studies and Haub Degree Completion are adult learner admissions programs. Traditional day admissions is not part of the dual admissions agreement.

Dual Admissions Eligibility

To be eligible for this program, students must:

  • Submit a dual admissions intent form before earning no more than 45 college level credits from Community College of Philadelphia or any other institution.  Once a student has completed this form, he or she is strongly encouraged to meet with a Professional & Liberal Studies (SJU-PLS) or Haub Degree Completion (SJU-HDC) admissions representative and a Community College of Philadelphia counselor to develop a plan of study.
  • Graduate from Community College of Philadelphia with an Associate in Arts (A.A.), Associate in Science (A.S.) or Associate in Applied Science (A.A.S.) degree in one of the approved programs listed.
  • Achieve a minimum 2.5 cumulative Community College of Philadelphia grade point average (GPA).  Only courses with a grade of C or higher will be eligible for transfer.
  • Enroll directly to a matching Saint Joseph’s University bachelor degree program within five years of completing an associate degree from Community College of Philadelphia and not attend any other institution between graduation and attendance at Saint Joseph’s University’s SJU-PLS or SJU-HDC.

Note:

  • Students who have previously been matriculated to Saint Joseph’s University are not eligible for the Saint Joseph’s University dual admissions program
  • A maximum of 75 credits are eligible for transfer to Saint Joseph’s University’s SJU-PLS or SJU-HDC. Transfer credits will be accepted on the basis of their relevance to the requirements of the bachelor’s degree program. Students must complete a minimum of 45 credits at Saint Joseph’s University.

Advantages of the Dual Admissions program

  • Students who participate in dual admissions to Saint Joseph’s University do not pay an Admissions fee.
  • Scholarships for dual admissions students enrolled full-time or part-time with a 3.0 or higher Community College of Philadelphia cumulative GPA.
  • Informational meetings with Saint Joseph’s University’s SJU-PLS or SJU-HDC staff at Saint Joseph’s University campus and Community College of Philadelphia main campus for assistance in matriculating to Saint Joseph’s University.

Scholarships and Financial Aid

Merit award designed for Dual Admissions students (including Phi Theta Kappa) with a 3.0 or higher.

The Transfer Merit Scholarship is designed for all dual admissions students, including members of the Phi Theta Kappa National Honor Society who have demonstrated scholastic achievement. To be awarded, the student must be fully admitted to Saint Joseph’s University as a full-time or part-time undergraduate, must have a minimum of 60 transferable credits and an associate’s degree, a minimum cumulative Community College of Philadelphia 3.0 GPA, be seeking his or her first-time bachelor’s degree, be attending Saint Joseph’s University for the first time and meet specific scholarship program criteria.  Non-US citizens are not eligible for this award.

Scholarship for full-time enrollment: (12 - 15 credits)

  • GPA 3.7 to 4.0 = $4,000 per academic year/ $2,000 per semester
  • GPA 3.5 to 3.69 = $3,000 per academic year/ $1,500 per semester
  • GPA 3.0 to 3.49 = $2,000 per academic year/ $1,000 per semester

Three-quarter time senrollment (9-11 credits per semester)

  • GPA 3.7 to 4.0 = $3,550 per academic year/ $1,775 per semester
  • GPA 3.5 to 3.69 = $2,065 per academic year/ $1,032.50 per semester
  • GPA 3.0 to 3.49 = $1,675 per academic year/ $837.50 per semester

Half-Time enrollment (6-8 credits per semester)

  • GPA 3.7 to 4.0 = $2,200 per academic year/ $1,100 per semester
  • GPA 3.5 to 3.69 = $1,450 per academic year/ $725 per semester
  • GPA 3.0 to 3.49 = $950 per academic year/ $475 per semester

Scholarship Notes:

  • Scholarships are renewable, contingent upon the student maintaining a required cumulative grade point average of 3.0 while attending Saint Joseph’s University.
  • Students attending Saint Joseph’s University’s off-campus locations at a discounted tuition rate are not eligible for merit or transfer scholarships.
  • Students attending Saint Joseph’s University’s exclusively Online Degree Completion programs are not eligible for merit or transfer scholarships.
  • Financial Aid will be awarded to Dual Admissions students on the same basis as all Saint Joseph’s University’s SJU-PLS and SJU-HDC students.  They will have equal access to all state and federal financial aid programs.
  • Merit Scholarships are awarded for the fall and spring semesters only.

Students are strongly encouraged to complete the Free Application for Student AID (FASFA) before May 1 each year to determine if they are eligible for a state grant.

Approved Academic Degree Programs

The following associate degree programs at Community College of Philadelphia are designated as part of the Dual Admissions Agreement for corresponding degree programs at Saint Joseph’s University. Choose from either Saint Joseph’s University Professional & Liberal Studies (SJU-PLS) or Haub Degree Completion (SJU-HDC). 

Students who have pursued a Community College of Philadelphia associate’s program of study other than those listed above and who wish to transfer to Saint Joseph’s University’s SJU-PLS or SJU-HDC may still be considered for admissions on an individual basis and their credits will be evaluated on a course-by-course basis.  These students should apply online at: www.sju.edu.
