Judge Marjorie O. Rendell to Receive The Fourth Annual Judge Edward R. Becker Citizenship Award at Community College of Philadelphia

PHILADELPHIA, May. 6, 2010 —The Honorable Judge Marjorie O. Rendell of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Third Circuit will receive the 2010 Judge Edward R. Becker Citizenship Award at 8 a.m., Monday, May 10 in Room C2-5 at the College’s Center for Business and Industry, 18th and Callowhill streets.

Judge Rendell also will deliver a lecture at the annual award breakfast.

The first lady of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, Judge Rendell is the fourth recipient of the award named in honor of the late Judge Edward R. Becker, a brilliant scholar and one of America’s most respected judges. A Philadelphia native, Judge Becker served on the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Third Circuit from December 1981 to May 2006. He was chief judge for the court from 1998 to 2003 and senior judge until 2006.

Previous award winners include U.S. Sen. Arlen Specter in 2007; William T. Coleman, Jr., a well-known civil rights attorney and former U.S. Transportation Secretary, in 2008; and Sister Mary Scullion, co-founder, executive director and president of Project H.O.M.E., in 2009.
