Whether individuals are looking to apply for jobs with certain technological requirements, advance in their career or update their skills, they will find a diverse range of course topics through Corporate Solutions. Classes at the Center for Business and Industry (CBI) include AutoCad for Professionals; Microsoft Office 2007 Review, which includes Publisher; CISCO Networking Academy, Personal Computer Repair and Troubleshooting for PCs and the new Microsoft Windows Vista.

Businesses that need to upgrade employee skills can receive customized and cost effective training from Corporate Solutions, which includes a skills assessment and curriculum created specifically for a company’s needs. Training can take place at the CBI, Regional Centers or on site at the business location.

“Corporate Solutions will work collaboratively with organizations to design customized training interventions that fit the needs and meet the requirements of the client. Our goal is to increase the productivity level of an organization’s human capital,” according to Waverly Coleman, executive director of Corporate Solutions.

Corporate Solutions’ CBI facility offers several resources to individuals and businesses, including smart classrooms and seminar rooms, computer-based teaching resources, interactive video and distance learning classrooms and conference rooms for large or small events. The center was built to fully accommodate current and future technology-based teaching and presentation requirements.

A common reality in today’s busy world is that many individuals do not have the time to get to class. Corporate Solutions’ partnership with Ed2Go provides a wide array of classes online, such as Basic Computer Literacy, Introduction to Microsoft Project, Introduction to Microsoft Word, Computer Skills for the Workplace, Creating Web Pages and Introduction to SQL. Students have the flexibility to attend class whenever they want—from wherever they choose—with instructor-facilitated, online courses from Ed2Go.

“Students taking Ed2Go online courses have indicated that these courses are challenging, convenient and fun,” said Coleman.

Qualified businesses also can take advantage of free training through the Workforce and Economic Development Network of Pennsylvania (WEDnetPA), a state initiative designed to train new and existing employees and meet workforce development needs.

Corporate Solutions, an institutional partner of WEDnetPA, administers funds for corporate training. In 2006-2007, Guaranteed Free Training grants totaling more than $555,000 were awarded to 21 Philadelphia-based companies.

“Although available dollars for fiscal year 2007–2008 have been fully allocated, grant applications are still being received,” said Coleman. “It is expected that additional grants will be approved for funding during the reallocation period in February 2008. Applications for Information Technology Training are a high priority of Corporate Solutions.”

Corporate Solutions recognizes that skilled workers are essential to the economic health of local industries and the Philadelphia economy. The College has provided customized training programs to Philadelphia employers for more than 30 years.

Coleman added, “As computer technology continues to change the way organizations work, Corporate Solutions is committed to adjusting our training programs for business and industry. We can provide training during the normal work day, in the evening, on weekends, on site at your organization, in one of the College’s three Regional Centers or in the Center for Business and Industry building.”
