The energy industry is generating new careers and opportunities for individuals with training as Building Analysts, Solar and Geothermal Installers and in Natural Gas Technology.

Building Analysts
Analysts perform home energy audits and building assessments for residential buildings. Building Analysts evaluate energy use and eliminate inefficiencies, saving thousands of dollars in wasted energy costs and helping to reduce the region’s carbon (pollution) footprint.

Credentials
JobTrakPA students train to sit for the Building Performance Institute (BPI) Building Analyst exam. BPI is the national certification organization meeting the need for a highly trained, skilled home performance workforce.

Building Trades Skills a Plus
If you have been working in the skilled construction trades, these new jobs build on existing skills in HVAC, plumbing, electrical work and related trades and professions.

Solar PV (Photovoltaic) Installers
Solar Photovoltaic Installers maintain as well as install solar panels for residential and commercial solar projects. The main tasks of a solar installer's job is to prepare the installation site. Installing the panels requires a process that begins with a full audit of the home or building including a survey of the electrical system and developing safety procedures.

Credentials
Many solar installers are licensed by the North American Board of Certified Energy Practitioners (NABCEP). Certification, while not necessary, can make it easier to find a job. Many larger projects require solar installer certification. Solar Photovoltaic Installers generally have experience in construction or as electricians. Solar installers may work with other skilled building trades workers like roofers, electricians, and plumbers.

Geothermal (ground source) Installers
“Ground source heat pumps (GSHPs) are electrically powered systems that tap the stored energy of the greatest solar collector in existence: the earth. These systems use the earth's relatively constant temperature to provide heating, cooling, and hot water for homes and commercial buildings.” -- International Ground Source Heat Pump Association

Credentials
Many JobTrakPA training courses prepare students to sit for the International Ground Source Heat Pump Association (IGSHPA) Certified Geothermal Installer exam.

Natural Gas Technology
The Natural Gas and Oil industry in Pennsylvania is growing due to advances in extraction technology. This technology allows gas & oil extraction to be a viable option for energy production in the region, particularly at the Marcellus Shale Deposit. A variety of career opportunities exist within this growing industry for people with office skills, mechanical and electrical knowledge, truck driving certification and equipment operation.
