Delaware County Community College offers qualified adults free, hands-on training that can help you quickly acquire the skills and industry recognized certification you need to obtain employment in fields where jobs are plentiful, such as health care, advanced manufacturing and energy.

Candidates must have either lost their job due to overseas trade (Trade Adjustment Assistance worker), been laid off or terminated, or been employed in a job beneath their skill level (underemployed). The program does not guarantee employment. However, in less than a year, the program can provide participants with the skills and credentials area employers are seeking.

Training Courses at Delaware County Community College:
 
Health Information Technology/
Electronic Medical Records Technology - 12-14 weeks

What you will learn:
Managing electronic data in a variety of health care settings
Patient records and electronic health record systems
Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) concepts, policy and procedures for legal documents
Protected Health Information and patient security measures
 
Advanced Manufacturing - 10 weeks
NIMS (National Institute for Metalwork Systems) certified Computer Numeric Control (CNC) operator Endorsed by The National Institute for Metalworking Skills (NIMS), this program leads to certification as an entry-level Computer Numerical Control (CNC) operator. Classes are held at the College’s Upper Darby Center, 1570 Garrett Road.

What you will learn:
Students will gain entry-level, hands-on instruction that will show them how to ready the equipment, download the program, load/unload the material, perform testing, troubleshoot and perform maintenance

Energy (Geothermal; Building Analyst, PV Solar)
Geothermal - 3 weeks
This training is applicable to architects, manufacturers, distributors, dealers, installers, HVAC technicians and contractors, plumbers, trenching/drilling, public and private utilities, and rural electric cooperatives. What you will learn • How to handle ground source systems, geothermal systems and system wiring • Design and Material Options, System Layout, Pipe Joining Techniques, Trenching/Drilling Processes, Air and Debris Purging, Pressure Drop Calculations, Pump and Fluid Selection, and Thermal Conductivity • Students prepare to take the International Ground Source Heat Pump Association (IGSHPA) Certified Geothermal Installer exam. Building Analyst ( 3 weeks) This training is applicable to individuals in construction, HVAC, plumbing, electrical, real estate, municipal inspectors, and building industry related sales. What you will learn • How to perform comprehensive, whole-home assessments • House-as-a-system approach, diagnostic techniques and equipment, comfort energy efficiency, and safety and durability as it relates to energy conservation. • Students prepare to take the Building Performance Institute (BPI) Building Analyst exam. PV (Photovoltaic) Solar This training is applicable to electrical professionals, general contractors, building professionals, engineers, architects, maintenance workers, and public utility and municipal personnel. What you will learn • Hands-on training in solar technology and project management, as it relates to PV Solar installation • How to verify customer needs, evaluate and assess a proposed site, calculate and confirm system size, energy storage systems, string size calculations, etc. • Students train to take the North American Board of Certified Energy Practitioners (NABCEP) PV Solar certification exam.
